If You Love This Planet, Dr. Helen Caldicott

Arnold Gundersen with a Fukushima update / Aileen Mioko Smith on rising radiation levels in Japan and government denial

Arnie Gundersen

Arnie Gundersen

This week, Dr. Caldicott gets an update on the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan from Arnold Gundersen, a consultant with Fairewinds Associates. Two recent items from the Fairewinds website: Too Close For Comfort - Floods, Earthquakes & Tsunamis and Newly Released TEPCO Data Proves Fairewinds Assertions of Significant Fuel Pool Failures at Fukushima Daiichi. Listen to our earlier programs featuring Gundersen here and here. As background for today’s program, read the recent news articles Greenpeace: Fukushima Schools Unsafe After Clean-Up, Cesium in Incinerator Dust Across East Japan and Japan’s Cesium Leak Equal to 168 ‘45 A-Bombs.

Aileen Mioko Smith

Aileen Mioko Smith

Later in the program, we hear from Japanese nuclear activist, Aileen Mioko Smith of Green Action Japan, based in Kyoto, on the alarming increase in radiation levels in Japan and government inaction. First, Smith discusses her research into health effects from the 1979 Three Mile Island nuclear disaster. The conversation moves to rising radiation levels in Japan citizens are reporting, the lack of government testing, Japanese protests about the high levels of contamination in Fukushima prefecture, and Smith’s concerns about high radiation exposures in children.

What can we do to stop all this, I fully agree and support you but I dont know what I can do except be angry and tweet and add links to my group on facebook,

Thanks lam335 for the link good documentary and info everyone should watch
http://www.infiniteunknown.net/2011/06/17/the-battle-of-chernobyl-documentary-hq/ After Watching Best Chernobyl Documentary 2006 The Battle of Chernobyl I thought how could any disaster be worse (Japan Has over 50 US over 100 Nuclear Plants). Fukashima completely out of control and 100x worse than Chernobyl. (still out of control after 25 yrs)This is my Living Planet it’s where we all live, it’s Beautiful, provides everything we need to live a Happy, Healthy life everyone should love it and protect it. The Planet Earth was Created by God or a super intelligent Positive Life Force or ( what ever you call your God or Creator.) This intelligent force that created the Universe, billions of Galaxies Google to the Google power of stars continues to create and recreate.(Humans are not intelligent enough to use and control the Atom for an energy source or weapons yet) The blue print for all things seen and unseen super intelligent DNA.( Don’t radiate DNA Please) So why is the Nuclear Mafia and a few multinational insane psychopaths MSM included trying to destroy our Beautiful Planet?? It’s where they and their children and families live. Is it for a few years of electricity or to create a large ATM and keep a few people wealthy (the old fable sell your sole(earth) for 20 pieces of silver) or just the new fad on the block. Solar, Natural gas, wind, tide, hydrogen, hydro electric geothermal the list goes on and on abundance of clean energy new technology everyday These Insane Psychopaths are going to turn our Beautiful Earth into a planet just like Mars. The Planet Earth is a large dirty nuclear bomb one large world or cosmic event game over and there well be 50 TMI, Chernobyl’s and Fukushimas Shut them all down before the next Fukashima!! The End.

Thank you for getting this important information out to the world. One thing that I haven’t heard mentioned enough is some of the conclusions that came out of “Chernobyl: Consequences of the Disaster for People and the Environment” regarding ways to mitigate harm to the body once radionuclides have been ingested. The authors of that report recommend mineral supplementation of iodine, calcium and potassium to prevent the absorption of radioactive iodine, strontium and cesium. They also reported about a supplement of pectin called Vitapect that has been effective in reducing levels of cesium in the body. These seem like fairly simple and inexpensive measures, but of course once adopted they might encourage people to have a false sense of security that they have defended themselves from the danger.

note - I also emailed this to you, before I noticed this form.

    Dear Dr. Helen Caldicott,

I just listened to your very good interviews with Dr. Arnie Gunderson and Aileen Midco Smith on ‘If You Love This Planet.’

You know a lot about nuclear issues, enough to ask some very good questions, which made for excellent interviews.

At one point you were discussing what it is in the Japanese character that makes this whole scenario possible - the government keeping people in danger, basically, and lying about the dangers, and the people basically so docile (for instance, taking their kids back to Fukushima when told that schools were opening. I would have said, no way is my kid going to school there this year worth risking his/her life!).

I would like to present - and ask if you agree with - my own observations. I think this whole thing is just SO big, so overwhelming, that really to deal with it as, say, the Russians did with Chernobyl, would be logistically impossible. There are too many people too close to ‘ground zero’ and no places to take or put them all, move them all to. The situation is different in several critically important ways from that the Russians faced with Chernobyl. (The costs of trying to deal appropriately with this disaster would be astronomical, it seems to me - such as just getting all the affected people to safer locations and compensating those affected - like farmers, fishermen, etc. who have lost their livelihoods. Conscious decisions are being made behind closed doors to sacrifice these people rather than spending money trying to help them and move them to safety.)

It is not just the Japanese who are acting like the famous see/hear/speak no evil trio of monkeys … it is the governments, media, and people of the entire globe. For instance, the US and Canada are directly downwind of this planned and occurring incineration or radioactive-contaminated materials — but there is nary a peep of protest. These governments are not protesting, not trying to protect their own people ditto the so-called ‘watch dog’ (more appropriately, lap dog) MSM. Rather they are protecting the nuclear power industry, and protecting and participating in the Japanese government’s program of de facto genocide.

Basically all of the governments of the Northern Hemisphere, who have gone ahead with this dangerous industry ‘have egg on their faces’ (and are even arguably guilty of crimes for having allowed such dangerous facilities to be built in the first place) and are just hoping to smooth things over and lie about the consequences, greater cancer rates, more deformed births, etc. and keep on winging it and covering it up as best they can - which with the degree of control they have and the degree of denial in the masses, might well be quite a bit, for quite a while.

This is how I see it and have seen it from the start, and I am just wondering if you agree with me.

Also I think we are in deep trouble at this point and facing massive poisoning of the biosphere and massive die-offs of plant and animal and human life. I am no expert but it seem to me that it is such an extremely catastrophic situation that expertise is not needed to get a sense of the magnitude of the problem, with so much radioactive material now in existence, with such long lifespans up to a quarter of a million years and more.

I know it is kind of a touchy thing to come out and express an opinion, for you as an widely known fiigure, but still I am asking your opinion.

    Sincerely,
    Tawny

  7. Michael Gunter Says:

Are we really safe in the southern hemisphere? I’m buying a Geiger counter kit, and intend to test some discarded air filters from my locak auto mechanic’s rubbish bin. Is anyone interested in sharing costs on a bigger purchase?: buying a secondhand food screening device from Ukraine or Belarus so that the Aussie public can randomly, anarchic-ly “ferraly” test Japanese food imports? (Not to mention Chinese “home brand” mussels and scallops?……….. etc etc etc)

BTW Helen, as a teenager I sometimes used to get bad metallic tastes during/after a heavy flu. Is this another clinical observation oto be ruled out, or was I the only person ever to experience this subjective phenomenon?

RE: Safe in so. hemisphere, or not?

I’m not a scientist, this is just what I have read in various places.

First of all, I think Australia is probably quite contaminated, from dirty uranium mining, and from the military using du ammo in various activities there. Also nuke bombs were detonated there, years ago.

DU contamination from its use in Iraq has also been blown all over, including in the Southern Hemisphere.

Leuren Moret is a source I trust. I suggest that people look uo her interviews, on You Tube, and on Alfred Webre’s Exopolitics website. She is a longtime anti-nuke activist.

She and others say that the radiation will travel around the globe and into the Southern Hemisphere. Time this will take, I have read, is between 1-2 years.

Moret at one point said she thought a good place to go might be on the equator, in the mountains. On the equator is an upwelling of warm air which might act as a kind of barrier to the falling radionuclides.

The ‘great conveyor belt’ ocean current will carry the radioactive ocean water over into the Atlantic.

Although the radiation will travel the globe, doubtless there will be relatively safe, or safer, pockets, due to wind patterns, etc. My guess is that the elites know all of this and have and are keeping detailed records, but are sitting on the information and will continue to do so.

I live in upstate ny, and was living in western ny when three mile island accident happened in the 1970’s! Im wondering and asking if our cancer rate is the way it is due to 3 mile, and if we can expect even more cases in the future due to the japan crisis? Thank for all you do, and may god bless us all with more people like you!
