Have been very concerned since Chernobyl, XXON Valdez, the gulf BP oil mess, and now Fukushima. Live in Nevada. Retired with somewhat limited donations capability.
This is the exact reasons why european people should vote no to the European Union.
The European Union should be dissolved as fast as possible.
I could write a very long novel about all the details, but I don't think there is room enough here for that, and besides that, if people start to think just a little bit, they will realise it themselves.

Absolutely brilliant discussion — we need many, many, many more on these topics. I have long believed in much of Chris Maser's key points: that men are afraid of women (for many reasons); that change is constant; recognizing one and oneness as a universal principal, distilled down, there are only two basic emotions and motivators: love and fear, the importance of raising women's status to absolute equality with men and recognizing their individual total sovereignty over their own reproductive process — these points are key to solving everything — globally.

I was kind of surprised that Helen did not recognize the dynamic that men are motivated by fear and fear of women being key to their desire to dominate women. I understand that this reality is not her mindset (nor is it mine and in fact I see it as deeply irrational in men) however I can clearly recognize it in the world or in my own life.

Chris Maser is quite impressive in his willingness to express these common truths that are either taboo or simply rarely discussed – I salute him.

Please Helen have him back and have more like him. Chris has his finger on some pivotal points that need addressing and once addressed and solutions or improved modalities found, will result in achieving the ends we all seek to save our planet and transform societies world-wide to live in balance with it.

ALERT: the iTunes Podcast version of this interview with Chris Maser is actually the audio from the previous weeks interview with Dr. Wladimir Wertelecki. Please repost it would be a shame to have anyone miss this important interview.

Brilliant exposition of the genetic and celular processes affected by radiation. Well done! Astonishing. I tried to ctc Dr Wetelecki to thank him but the email accociated with the WAO link failed. Please pass on if possible:

Dear Dr Wertelecki

Thank you so much for your talk with Dr Helen Caldicott! I was 13 years old when Chernobyl occurred and naively thought that grown ups were kind and clever people who would work together to ensure that everything was carefully studied and learned and taken care of... Recently I started to do some research and I was absolutely astounded to find the lack of scientific literature on this topic. Thank you not just for your talk with Helen, but for taking responsibility when so many others have turned their backs on these terrible events and the future of this planet.

Please continue to do what you can to engage with the community of people who love this planet so we can learn from your wonderful work and your clear intelligent explanatory powers!

In great admiration and gratitude,

This extraordinarily informative interview should not be missed. Clearly explaining the differences between teratogenic (affecting the embryo or foetus) and genetic abnormailities - (originating from a gene, inherited) Dr Wertelecki remedies the great gap in information on the effects of Chernobyl.

I could not help wondering, today, as I read about the high level of rural Chinese babies with birth defects - wondering about what China does with its radioactive wastes. The press item from Beijing News attributed this to the age of mothers, alcohol etc.

But, to give them credit - the article also mentions radioactivity as a cause. https://www.beijingnews.net/index.php?sid/209107845/scat/55582c89cb296d4c/ht/900000-Chinese-born-with-birth-defects-every-year

Dear Dr. Caldicott.
First of all I can't thank you enough for all the information you have given to the world since the Fukushima disaster, and about the weapons/nuclear industri long before that.
You are so right about Japan not being able to handle the situation by themselves. International help is needed, but it's not gonna happen as long governments all over the world, and the press keeps covering up the truth, and the size of the disaster.
To change that, pressure has to come from the people, and the sad thing is that most people don't know. Most people don't even know that the information needed to understand the situation is available right in front of their nose when they use their computer. They blindly trust their governments and newspapers/tv stations.
In Europe the cover up has been very effective, and a majority of people believe that the disaster is just something that took place on the other side of the world last year, that the situation, and the plant is under control, and that it besides that doesn't concern, or affect them.
Due to the effective cover up European people don't know about the heavy fallout we have received over here, they are not aware of the danger that the contaminated food being grown here, or the imported food from the american westcoast for instance poses. They know nothing about the horrible way the japanese government treat the people, or anything about the huge demonstrations in Japan. The list of things Europeans don't know but should know about this continues almost forever.
A lot of people (including myself) are doing what ever possible to spread knowledge about this, but we have a hard time doing it. Governments and the press do not respond when contacted about this, though given a load of information and documentation. When it comes to ordinary people the story is the same. Some people even get mad, when the subject is brought up. "If this was true it would have been in the press", is the respons you often get. Most people won't take the time to look into the necessary facts, to understand the situation.
It's easy to see why the governments and the press is so succesful covering up the truth.
If you make a program about all these subjects, and especially about the consequenses that the Fukushima disaster will have for the European populations, it might be easier to wake people up. If they could get all the information they need to understand how serious the situation is from just listening to one program, instead of having to go through truckloads of heavy scientific material, it might just make a difference. I for one would pass on the link to a huge amount of people, and others would too.
If the governments in Europe is to act on the situation, pressure has to come from the people. I hope you will consider making such a program.
Thanks and regards from Denmark

We enormously appreciate your fortitude and persistence on this horrendous topic. We have been HORRIFIED from the start at both what happened and that the public is kept in the dark. But that said, informationally, this had to have been the most clinically insane interview we have ever heard! How do you keep from running out into the street screaming and having a nervous breakdown? This is NOT humanly survivable!!

Hello Helen.
First of all I can't thank you, and Arnie enough for all the information you have given to the world since the Fukushima disaster. I have found it enormously valuable in my study to understand the consequenses of nuclear accidents, fallout etc. It's just a shame that too many people don't hear this information, and even worse, that they don't really understand it.
I for one have spread information about this in every possible way since the disaster last year. I have been bombarding all political parties in Denmark with information on how serious the situation is, and encouraged them to try to get an international effort going to help the Japanese people, and also do something about contaminated food etc. But all I get is stupid answers, if any answer at all, and nothing is being done about anything.
I have done the same with the Danish press, with the same result. The few things being printed or broadcasted is downplayed nonsens, or direct lies. All Danish papers print is worthless junk and stupidities, politicians don't give a s... about anything, and the stores are packed with contaminated food.
The Danish department for food safety confirms that proper testing is not being done, and most ordinary people don't know, and won't believe how seriously the situation is, because they haven't heard about it in the news.
It would be really nice if you made a program dedicated to the consequenses of the Fukushima disaster for the populations in Europe, that me and others could refer to. There is no guarantee that it will make a difference, but it's sure worth a try, don't you think?
Japan can not lift this burden by it selves. International help is required, but nothing happens if the people don't know the truth. And they surely won't get from the politicians or the media.
Best wishes from Denmark
Jens.

Another great interview - the subject of nuclear-caused climate change just never seems to get mentioned. Yet here we have a climate expert spelling it out for us.
About Facebook, Twitter etc - let's have hope about this. Social media has been working a treat in Japan, where organising protests has been done with great skill.
As investigative journalism withers away, we look to social media to point us towards information - such as this website, and perhaps, eventually, towards getting us all out into the streets!

I am blown away by the importance of the information revealed in this program. I'm going to have to listen again and take notes on it. My one big question is: Is there any U.S. poltiician which has revealed this information to the American people? And my follow-up question is "If not, why not?"

This is the stuff of an enlightened democracy. We should be talking about how hot money corrupts the entire polticial process, not just getting elected to public office. It's clear to me that a lot of people have their hand in the cookie jar on the nuclear issue. The secrecy is another aspect of this conspiracy. We really ought to be talking about the "nuclear conspiracy" because it unites the energy and weapons aspects into a single phenomenon, which in truth they are.

I haven't listened to this program, but my question would be, I'm writing the UN and the Prime Minister of Japan, why doesn't Alvarez or Arnie talk about the 30,000 times more radioactivity of plutonium 239 over uranium 235. Helen is the only one talking about the issue that chernobyl has rods in them for only 3 months and fukushima had rods in them for 4 and half years? And the spent fuel has plutonium 239 in it?

Dr. Arjun Makhijani is an exceptionally valuable speaker. His genial and easygoing manner combines with an insight into the global nuclear problem, a special insight that is so badly needed today. Where else do we here it explained - the truly dreadful psychological dilemma, the stress, of parents who live in the Fukushima prefecture? The mental health aspect of nuclear power is usually completely ignored, and not understood at all by most nuclear engineers. Let's hope that more of them are like Arjun with his unblinkered view of the world.

For Australians, Arjun's message is especially timely. Professor Barry Brook, and nuclear promoter Terry Krieg, are getting lots of media cover for that great idea they have - to set up Thorium Nuclear Reactors in outback South Australia. This is a worry - the media coverage in particular. In Australia's media Murdochracy, there is an opportunity for these nuclear salesmen to con the public in a way that couldn't happen so easily in other countries. Dr. Arjun Makhijani's is a voice that needs to be heard in this climate of pro nuclear propaganda in Australia.

prince phillip of england once said when he died he would like to come back as a humanity killing virus.
maybe the lack of international rescue effort by the elites is in line with depleted uranium missile use and new generation portable combat nuke weapons.
in england lot's of adverts about cancer care.
they kill you slowly then make money giving you more radiation before you die.
everyone here seems zombified and indifferent the degenerate inbred elites must be laughing at the stupidity and ignorance of the people.

Given the inordinate amount of time that has passed since the accident and the inaction of the many governments capable of lending a hand, i have lost faith in our polititians. I can only conclude that there is a concerted and orchestrated effort to keep everyone in the dark about what is unfolding.
I've given up on my government. Now my thoughts are turning to questions of how does my family possibly live in a contaminated world of radiation?
How do we live with that? Once the cat is out of the bag, there's no putting it back in.

It's time to close the world's nuclear power plants and to institute aggressive policies to increase energy efficiency and conservation. At the same time, let's remove the subsidies from dirty fuels and support the rapid transition to modern, renewable forms of energy. We can do this, and we have to start now. Join us in making this transition happen on Long Island and around the world. There is no more time to waste. The nuclear-safety-fallacy has been exposed for what it truly is.

Thank you Dr. Caldecott for your ongoing, world-changing work. It's unfortunate that it has taken a tragedy of these proportions to get the world to wake up to the need to move away from this dangerous technology.

I feel like the world is being run by psychopaths. Don't these people who run our government have children? Maybe these characters believe that they are radiation proof? I guess that because radiation cannot be felt, smelt, or tasted, its a case of out of sight out of mind as far as these people are concerned.
As far as I am concerned, the only thing that would probably bring about a major change in the minds of the powers that be in Japan, would be if the imperial family came down with cancer due to radiation exposure.

Here's a song about the topic: Michel Montecrossa's 'Günter Grass Is Right: World War Is Bad - New-Topical-Evolver-Song triggered by the Günter Grass poem 'What has to be said''

video of the song:
https://vimeo.com/41190237

Michel Montecrossa (MichelMontecrossa.com) says:
“‘GÜNTER GRASS IS RIGHT: WORLD WAR IS BAD ‘ is a New-Topical-Evolver-Song triggered by the controversial Günter Grass poem ‘Was gesagt werden muss / What has to be said’. It is not a song about politics but about what the people want in these times of world war fears, disinformation and big trading of weapons: The people want peace, unity, freedom, jobs, education and security for themselves and their children. They don’t want the destruction of their lives, brain messing and always more horrible weapons.
Listen to ordinary people in Israel or Iran and all over the world. They talk with each other in the internet and want peace, not war. To wish for the destruction of a nation is not what the people want. That’s why I sing this song triggered by a poem which is somewhat lopsided and certainly controversial, but at the same time a good occasion to think about ways for proper handling of complex realities which pose a threat to the life of us all.”

GÜNTER GRASS IS RIGHT: WORLD WAR IS BAD
Günter Grass is right: World War is bad.
We have to speak about the root of all
hate and misunderstanding,
of blindness and of anger,
of conflict and ill will.
Günter Grass is right: about facts we have to talk
free in mind and true, ready to find the ways
to peace and understanding,
to celebration of humanity,
to joy of human unity.
Günter Grass is right: trading of weapons is a danger
strengthening war in the world and the willingness to kill.
Better let us strengthen
the readiness to live together
and to solve our problems together.
I see the people everywhere: they don’t want wars.
Old and young want peace and love for all the world,
good work and not poverty
freedom and the contacts
connecting all and making us happy.

One point of issue.
The half life of Iodine 131 being so short means that it is extremely radioactive.
Pound for pound if you like, this means that the governed by half life, the decay of one gram of radionuclide that has the half life of one day, will be 1000 times more radioactive than an equivalent weight of radionuclide with a half life of 1000 days.
That is how i understand it, and it is why Iodine131 is so amazingly radioactive.
Another one would be Radon222.
A small amount is extremely radioactive.
Also this is why it is so difficult to detect radionuclides with longer halflives like radio Cesium and so on.
Radioactivity in a sample does not indicate how much is in a sample alone.

Hello My name is Izumi and I'm from Japan.
Thank you so much for airing this programme.
I would be most grateful if you could improve the sound condition for guest speakers.
If the sound is clear, I can understand what they are saying in English language, but if it's muffled (is that the right word?) like this, it is a little hard to listen to, since my mother tongue is Japanese. I wish my English language skills were higher though.
Thank you !

This is a very powerful interview, full of information that we ignore at our peril. It is followed by one of the most passionate speeches I have ever heard. Dr. Caldicott is one of a handful of true heroines, and her intensity and dedication are deeply moving. If even a few thousand people had one percent of her fervor, the shift would come quickly. In the meantime, I want to express my appreciation to two people who are making a difference by telling the truth.

This said, while I agree with the facts and need for action and even the thesis Dr. Caldicott presents of gene mutation, I believe there are natural remedies that reduce the risks considerably. However, until we all work as a team, sharing knowledge and experience, the relief that is needed will be delayed by the same kinds of inertia that have rendered the world situation as precarious as it is today.

Dr. Caldicott, thank you for your interview with Taro Kono. He is one of the few politicians in Japan who has been speaking out against the nuclear power industry in Japan long before the Fukushima disaster.

Regarding your questions on the Chinese government's increasingly belligerent tactics in the South China Sea, a recent audio report by Mary Kay Magistad on Public Radio International's "The World" is quite timely and I hope will provide some initial guidance on how the Chinese Navy (and it's unofficial surrogates in the form of Chinese fishing boats) are over-reaching national boundaries. This is the issue that Taro is concerned about and the Chinese Navy's actions are a concern for all of the regional nations.

It's a bit of a shame that Dr. Caldicott didn't bother, when bringing on a member of Parliament, no less, to figure out what was his first name and what was his last.

Mr. Kono was quite a gentleman about it, but the host continually called him "Kono" without adding Mr., as if it was his first name!
