Young people are facebooking and there is a lot of information there. The anti-nuclear movement should mobilize there–that is where the a lot of environmental “action” is taking place–at least that is where the information is being shared. By the way, there was almost nothing about the recent event at the UN on the environmental websites on facebook. This says something about how the anti-nuke movement needs to push much harder to get the information about nuclear issues into the public eye.

Greg's home page is here:

https://lasg.org/

As to why "why President Obama [ actually better thought of as the monied/governing elite] is supporting the building up of nuclear power as well" , my $0.02 worth:

It is an easy industry to monopolize (highly technical, controlled entry), and thus one can receive income from rent (seehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rent_seeking). Many of the costs (tail liabilities, health concerns) can thus be avoided, a classic case of privatizing the benefits and socializing the costs.

Most folks are aware of Eisenhower's warnings against the Industrial-Military-(Congressional) Complex, but seem unaware of the warning that immediately followed:

"Yet in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy itself could become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.

Dear Dr. Caldicott and Greg Mello,

Thank you so much for this information. The media keeps masking what is really going on with the nuclear industry and without your information, it is almost impossible to understand what is really going on. As you say, our government "pretends" to want to reduce our nuclear complex, but this is not true. I wish you could explain further why President Obama is supporting the building up of nuclear power as well.

I want to be part of the movement of change that Greg Mello and you describe. It is time for us to wake up. I hate that we are leaving a poisoned earth to our children. It is frightening and deplorable. I agree with so much of what Greg Mello says.

I can't wait to see your new webpage, Dr. Caldicott. It should be on facebook, too. I want to work with you! I support what you do and believe in!
