Robert Alvarez

This week, Dr. Caldicott interviews Robert Alvarez, a Senior Scholar at the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) in Washington, D.C. Alvarez is an award-winning author and has published articles in prominent publications such as Science Magazine, the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, Technology Review and The Washington Post. As background, listen to Dr. Caldicott’s November 2011 interview with Alvarez here. Read the May 2011 IPS press release Expert Cautions that 30 Million Spent Nuclear Fuel Rods Are Unsafely Stored in United States, Could Cause Fukushima-like Disaster and read the 2011 IPS report Spent Nuclear Fuel Pools in the U.S.: Reducing the Deadly Risks of Storage.

  1. Andrew Goodpaster Says:

I haven’t listened to this program, but my question would be, I’m writing the UN and the Prime Minister of Japan, why doesn’t Alvarez or Arnie talk about the 30,000 times more radioactivity of plutonium 239 over uranium 235. Helen is the only one talking about the issue that chernobyl has rods in them for only 3 months and fukushima had rods in them for 4 and half years? And the spent fuel has plutonium 239 in it?

  2. Steve Moyer Says:

I am blown away by the importance of the information revealed in this program. I’m going to have to listen again and take notes on it. My one big question is: Is there any U.S. poltiician which has revealed this information to the American people? And my follow-up question is “If not, why not?”

This is the stuff of an enlightened democracy. We should be talking about how hot money corrupts the entire polticial process, not just getting elected to public office. It’s clear to me that a lot of people have their hand in the cookie jar on the nuclear issue. The secrecy is another aspect of this conspiracy. We really ought to be talking about the “nuclear conspiracy” because it unites the energy and weapons aspects into a single phenomenon, which in truth they are.
